Abby Kasonik, Untitled Green & Yellow, 2020, acrylic on panel, 48 x 48 inches.

“The depiction of indistinct forms, particularly their proximity and relationships to one another, is an area from which I draw inspiration. These forms, though undefined are meant to imply sentience and awareness. They gather in pairs or groups, sometimes separating from one, to huddle closer to another. Their arrangements suggest an alliance or accord.

As we navigate new directives of gathering and separation, these forms seem especially charged. They are vibrant with the energy of the small space between them; the tiny gap of not touching. There is a frisson to the closeness of the forms. In that small gap that separates them, there is so much potential; the shared air, of trust or defiance, an intimacy that contains the delicacy of life.”
