Cassie Guy, Correspondence II, 2020, ink and watercolor on paper, 30 x 22 inches.

“I began Correspondence in the early days of social distancing. Using ink and watercolor on textured paper, I unintentionally pursued a more contemplative and less naive palette than in previous works. As I was confronted with the sharp-turn of a new and more serious outlook on life, this more sober approach seemed a natural and more appropriate departure from my usual bright and often cheeky color range.”

“[My works] echo our current reality as they simultaneously address distancing and connection through their own attempts at discovering ways to correspond. The hope is that the viewer is left questioning whether these uncertain ‘glyphs’ are acting as individuals or are they part of a greater whole. Are they solitary? Or are they connected? Are they interacting?”
