Please join us on First Friday, February 3, 5:30-7:30PM for the opening reception of two solo exhibitions: Valencia Robin’s Mother Tongue in the Main Gallery and James Everett Stanley’s Selected Works in the Dové Gallery. The exhibiting artists will be present during the evening to chat with visitors.
Mother Tongue features abstract paintings, assemblages, and poetry by Charlottesville-based artist Valencia Robin. The recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a Margaret Towsley Fellowship and a King-Chavez-Parks Fellowship, she holds an MFA in Art & Design from the University of Michigan and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Virginia.

James Everett Stanley’s Selected Works presents a survey of paintings executed between 2011 and 2022 by the Cape Cod, Massachusetts-based artist. Stanley received his MFA in painting from Columbia University. His work has been shown widely, including solo and group exhibitions at Freight & Volume Gallery in New York, Kinkead Contemporary in Los Angeles, Andrew Rafacz Gallery in Chicago, and Frederic Snitzer Gallery Miami. Stanley is an alumnus of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and was awarded a Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program fellowship and a fellowship from The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. His work was recently included in regional exhibitions at the Mills Gallery, Boston Center for the Arts; Gaa Gallery Provincetown, MA; the Cape Cod Museum of Art; and the Bristol Art Museum, Bristol, RI . He is an Assistant Professor of Painting at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
