Come join SSG on Saturday, January 14 from 11AM - 12:30PM for a mixed-media, pocket shrine workshop with exhibiting artist, Ramona Martinez!
Shrines are unique spaces where we can find refuge, seek healing, or engage with an inspirational energy. They can be made to honor an ancestor, saint, someone you admire, or even a concept or idea that brings you peace. In this workshop you will learn how to make your own transportable, pocket shrine.
After years of building ofrendas to her ancestors, Ramona Martinez combines her spiritual and artistic practices by creating icons and altars she now shares with her community. Enshrining things that are important to us is something we do to honor our past and our future, and it is not limited to any particular religious practice or faith.
Workshop attendees will learn about the current exhibition and the inspiration behind some of the artist’s practices. Attendees will have the opportunity to create their very own pocket shrine using materials such as craft supplies, fabric, yarn, found objects, and trinkets--all provided by the gallery.
Participants are also encouraged to bring any special found objects or artifacts that they’d like to include in their shrine.
The workshop is available at $10 SSG members / $14 non-members. This fee covers workshop instruction and access to all workshop materials for the activity.
PLEASE NOTE: if the application fee is a financial barrier, please contact the gallery. We have limited scholarship funds available and we will do our best to accommodate you.
The workshop is limited to 20-25 attendees and will take place in person at Second Street Gallery. The workshop is now SOLD OUT. Please email info@secondstreetgallery.org to be placed on the waitlist.
