Come join SSG on Wednesday, September 28th from 6-7:30PM for a painting workshop with Teeny Tiny Trifecta 5 exhibiting artist, Sophie Gibson!

Selecting a fragment of nature as your starting place (a flower, a stone, a seedpod, etc.), you will generate a small batch of intuitive paintings using watercolor and gouache. By lovingly observing whatever object or printed image you select as your inspiration source and breaking it down into its colors, shapes, and lines, you will explore abstraction as a process of extraction and practice improvisation as you free yourself from the outcome of the work and focus on the process of observation and iteration.

This workshop will help you overcome your fear of getting started by making it easy to put paint down on the page and help you trust your own process, setting aside judgement in order to get into the painting flow and see what comes up.

Within this workshop, Gibson will also share an additional process of her practice — assemblage, in which she cuts out her paintings and weaves components back together to create new arrangements.

The workshop is available at $10 SSG members / $15 non-members. This fee covers workshop instruction and access to all necessary workshop materials for the activity. The workshop is limited to 12-15 attendees and will take place in the Main Gallery at SSG.
