Matou Demba
Matou Demba (b.1999) is a Gambian-Virginian artist, writer, and researcher. She graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in African Diaspora Studies and Comparative Literature. Since 2019, Matou has developed an interdisciplinary practice between her writing, research, and artistic work. Blending 3D and 2D methodologies of digital art, she invents surreal ecosystems rooted in a deep engagement of Afro-diasporic histories, culture, and politics. Matou’s work has been published in Burnaway’s 4th annual reader, Where I’m Calling From, and is currently featured in Southside Contemporary Art Gallery’s “Diaspora Crossing” exhibition.
