Hyunjin Park received her BFA in Textile Art from Gachon University in Korea in 2005 and pursued further studies in illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2010. She launched her artistic career through group exhibitions across New York, including a solo show in Brooklyn. In 2017, she was a finalist in Jonathan Levine Gallery's first competition, showcasing her work in a group exhibition.

Park’s art is inspired by everyday experiences and travel photography, which she reimagines into creative scenes that delve into the emotions tied to different moments and environments. Her paintings invite viewers to immerse themselves in the experiences of her subjects through dynamic compositions, vivid colors that shift with light, and reflective elements. Often incorporating surreal details and unique objects, her work creates a rich, immersive experience that encourages individual interpretation. Park aims to align the viewer's perspective with that of her characters, creating a sense of direct engagement with the scenes she portrays.

“People have different levels of interest in others—sometimes they care, and sometimes they don’t. But while too much attention can feel overwhelming, a complete lack of it can feel unsettling. Any kind of attention can bring both comfort and discomfort.

In my work, I explore this tension, especially the discomfort of unwanted attention, using eyes as a symbol. Eyes and peepholes, representing personal and one-sided communication, help me express the mixed emotions around being watched. I aim to capture both the fear and fascination that come with it. As viewers look at the paintings, they encounter a surreal arrangement of eyes, heightening the feeling of being watched. This creates an intense experience of attention—whether uncomfortable or intriguing—in a way we don't often feel in everyday life.”
