Second Street Gallery is pleased to present siren x silence, a new exhibition by emerging artist Madeleine Rhondeau, held in SSG’s Dové Gallery. The exhibition opened on First Friday, October 5, 2018 from 5:30PM-7:30PM. The artist gave a short talk in the gallery at 6:15PM.

Madeleine explores the evanescent quality of memory as it slips between the real and the remembered, with bright, bold paintings inspired by the graphic nature of kabuki theater. siren x silence is an exhibition building upon an ongoing series that traces the drama of the human figure, traversing conflicts of love, honor and filial obedience. 

Steeped in dark imagery and rooted in personal experience, she investigates moments of clarity that illuminate self and identity.  Paintings develop in a transformative, process-based dialogue with forms and figures that resolve in their own time. “siren x silence is a series of work that I have been intensely dedicated to over the last year as my creative practice has evolved. I am beyond excited about this opportunity to present my work to my hometown of Charlottesville.”

Madeleine Rhondeau is from Crozet, Virginia and graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a B.A. in Studio Art and Historic Preservation.
