Madeleine Rhondeau-Rhodes, Fairies always did admire the crocodiles, 2020, collage

“This pandemic has forced me to further retreat into my own imagination. Creating figurative collages has challenged myself to consider more complicated compositions, something I felt had been lacking in my work prior to the quarantine.”

“I envy a child’s privilege to live in the bliss of innocence and ignorance and, especially now, wish I still had that ability. Upon researching fairies further, I discovered that people’s fascination with fairies exploded in the Romantic and Victorian Age, perhaps as an act of distracting themselves from the tumultuous events taking place during their own time.

In the quieter moments of my life right now, I imagine an enchanted place where human beings intersect with a world where fairies really do walk among us, for better or worse.”
