ALANNA MAHON
“At the beginning of quarantine the space was cluttered, and my space was small. The space was filled with rocky relationships and dirty dishes.
So I found my own space away from the clutter in the quiet moments, when the natural light touched inside. I found a playfulness in the way light danced with the shadows inside. These moments were the gold in the dull days. And time stood still for a brief pause of silence...
When I was depressed my grandma light-heartedly told me to eat a teaspoon of nutmeg, and take a deep breath into a yellow-colored washcloth spritz with cool Rose water. She said it was the cheapest way for a quick mood boost. My grandma raised four kids as a single mom, while working as a nurse during the 60s... so I like to believe she knows best.
I never found a yellow washcloth to test her theory, but I unintentionally came across yellow in the moments I felt drawn to capture through my camera lens. I’ve now moved into a new space. Where there are no dirty dishes, and where new opportunities, and relationships have emerged from. And everything is yellow at The Yellow House.”
