Somé Louis is a Charlottesville-based conceptual artist whose work investigates concepts of observation, memory, and emotional processing through simple creative exercises. In her recent work, Louis explores drawing, painting, plant arrangement and installation as ritual-like centering practices, as well as tools to mitigate sensory overload and record daily occurrences.
Louis received her BA in Studio Art and Art History from Wellesley College in 2017, and received the Friends of Art Prize for Studio Art. She has participated in a number of Charlottesville creative projects, including the Nick Cave AIR Workshop at the University of Virginia, and the FLOW Rivanna River Festival. Louis was a 2021 New City Arts fellow and a 2022 McGuffey Art Center Residency Artist. She is a current artist in McGuffey Art Center’s 2022-2023 Incubator Studio Program.
