Come join SSG on Saturday, March 18, 11AM - 12:30PM to make mixed media poems, specifically epistles, elegies and odes. Exhibiting artist Valencia Robin calls these three poetic forms time machines, because they often allow the poet to reflect on a favorite person, place, or thing from the past. The artist will be present to lead the art making workshop.
In this workshop, rather than simply text, we’ll create small, visual epistles (letter poems), elegies (poems of loss) and odes (praise poems) using a variety of art materials such as craft supplies, fabric, yarn, found objects, and trinkets--all provided by the gallery. Participants are encouraged to bring any special found objects or artifacts that they’d like to include in their visual poems.
Interested participants are also invited to bring a poem by a favorite poet to share.
An interdisciplinary artist, Robin routinely combines her poetry and art practices; she writes poems that reference her art practice and makes art that references poetry. Workshop attendees will learn about her current exhibition and the inspiration behind some of her art practices.
