April 20: Theodora Miller

Prompt: inspired by Porkchop and Subculture Shock, create a work of art that uses letters or symbols (either existing or your own creation).

Artist Porkchop combines an alphabet of his own invention with reclaimed objects (as seen in the selection of work included in SSG’s 2019 exhibition, Subculture Shock). The artist’s carefully constructed symbols draw from ancient scripts and alphabets such as Hebrew, Hindi, Aramaic, and Latin. For Porkchop, the ambiguity of the text is essential as it allows viewers to relate to the work no matter what cultural background they come from. Read more about Subculture Shock HERE.

This piece “represents a mixture of invented shapes and lines, and some abstracted letters in all directions.”
