BILL EMORY

“My heart is my home.

I live with a dog.

I am blessed and thankful.

This is my life.

The process and ideas? We are all passing through, we are briefly in the light. The house at 1604 E Market was built by 19th Century millworkers, James and Virginia Starkes. In the 20th Century it  was occupied by Starkes’ children and grandchildren. Now the Starkes are mostly up the Hill in Riverview Cemetery.

I’ve lived in this millhouse for 33 years. The house is surrounded by trees. The house is surrounded by dogs, their journey ended, gone to ground.

When the wind blows the dogs sniff, listen and sing through the leaves.

I asked my father’s permission to bury him in the yard but he said no.

My home is my heart, this is my heart.”
