JILL KERTTULA

“We live in an apartment that was once the offices of a warehouse by the railroad tracks. It has the signs of years of work and renovation on the exposed brick walls. I love searching these walls for textures and interesting finds, like the imprints of the brickmakers.  The walls have bricks of every ilk, wood inserts, old nails, and a bit of newer drywall. There is history here, and a few spiders! Our bathroom was once a coal bin, and most of the back third of the apartment is underground so it is quiet and cool.

It is our cave and refuge, and has been a wonderful place to isolate and live through the pandemic, and given me plenty of time to find these images.”
