MARGARET EMBREE
House and Woods
“Dwelling inside my house for months, with a toddler, led me to consider the woods as part of our everyday living space. I spent a lot of time observing the cycle of decay and rebirth: we planted a garden, walked in the woods, and watched our “pet Squirrel” eat from the compost bucket. Meanwhile, a bullfrog kept emerging unscathed from the strangest places: under a flat garden stepping stone, under a pile of logs.....that’s resilience!
Inside was chaos like the outside world. I, as many others, worked on the house. Inside the chaos I found quiet reflective moments. Moments to settle the fear, anger and rising panic within. Moments to just wonder at it all and turn on my art mind with which to transform them into something else. I am grateful for that. I am also grateful to have a space to cocoon in, both inside and out.”
